Environmental Issues Paper Topics
What are some current environmental or public health issues that I can write a research paper on??

I need something that is in the news and it can NOT be red tide, sinkholes, or hurricanes. Please help me with some topics, some good places to also do the research, and any additional info would be great. This is for my college environmental science class.

Another person asked a similar question a few weeks ago. This was my answer to their question about a couple of environmental topics that should be easy to research on the internet or in your college library and could be the subject of a research paper:

1. Overfishing the oceans.

2. “Green space” in urban environments to prevent the fragmentation of wildlife habitat.

3. Overpumping of groundwater aquifers.

4. Protection of natural springs from water bottling companies.

5. Desalination technology used for water supply.

6. Mandatory recycling of waste.

7. Gasoline alternatives (ethanol, hydrogen fuel cell, electric car, etc.).

8. Genetic engineering of plants and animals.

9. Feral cat colonies.

10. Environmental justice movement in minority communities to prevent governments from locating polluters in their neighborhoods.

11. The success (or lack thereof) of reclamation or restoration techniques for wetlands destroyed by mining (coal, phosphate, etc.).

Environmental Issues 2009
What are some environmental issues that are being ignored by the bought and paid for Copenhagen establishment?

I wonder why the bought and paid for scientists, politicians and fake environmental shills put stuff like poisons and toxins in the drinking water supply and focus on a gas necessary to sustain life.

http://news.nuprana.com/2009/10/07/dangerous-toxins-taint-drinking-water-in-schools/

An environmental issue that is totally ignored that I can think off from the top of my head is the realization that Antarctica is GROWING and not shrinking…but you don’t get those pictures shown that NASA has available. Another point to be made is nothing is commented on the biggest green house gas in our atmosphere which is Water vapor…or what people know as CLOUDS!

People we, and the plants NEED Carbon Dioxide and to ignore that fact shows a gross ignorance of grade school Earth Science classes.

environmental issues/waste management in the workplace?

anyone know any useful ideas on how to mange the energy we use, and waste (mainly paper) we throw away in the office? Also- any important facts we should know about the environment- not like the obvious ones- but like some statistics etc that can give us a bit more drive to become more eco-friendly?

thanks a lot :)

Depending on the size of your business there are many paper shredding/recycling companies that can provide service. The document shredders/bins can accomodate paper clips, staples, and folder brackets and they pick up. This works for medium and larger offices, smaller offices may have to collect and drive to the recycler themselves.

Look into ways to reduce the paper. Use email, databases, websites, electronic billing and payment, computer filing. Encourage employees to not print drafts or emails. Accept digital signatures from PDF where you can so docs don’t have to be printed.

For energy: the obvious ones that you’d do in your home – control the thermostat, change lightbulbs, use power strips, turn off lights, computers, equipment. If employees listen to music encourage them to play it on the PC or phone system instead of a radio or CD player.

For statistics I’d suggest creating your own internal stats. Collect the waste paper for a week and weigh it, then calculate how many trees it took on an online calculator. That way it’s personal. Or have contests, for every $1 saved on the power bill the employees get to share $0.25 or pool it for a prize or party. The company still saves $0.75!

Environmental Issues Vietnam

Through 2007, Vietnamese economic market trends indicated that civilian aircraft and industrial rubber were the leading imported products, while cotton apparel and home furnishings topped the exports list. This trend has apparently started changing somewhat with the conclusion of 2008. According to Daniel Workman in his article “Top Vietnamese Exports and Imports”, at the end of the 4th quarter, the trends now appear as follows:

Top 5 Fastest-growing export categories:

- iron and steel mill products (semi-finished)

- plywood and wood veneers

- diamonds – both uncut and unset

- appliances – household and kitchen

- DVD players, televisions, and assorted video equipment

Top 5 Fastest-growing import categories:

- nuts

- industrial rubber products

- copper

- soybeans

- assorted non-ferrous (non-iron) metals

The Stage is Set for Profitable Imports

Despite the global economy and the US financial markets experiencing considerable turbulence in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2008, Vietnam managed to exceed $10 billion (USD) in exports to the US by the end of October (2008). This equaled the total of the entire prior year (2007). Current speculation is that 2009 will see an increase over the prior year that could reach 15%.

Conversely, current numbers indicate that US exports alone into the Vietnamese market are approaching the $1.5 billion mark. Does this indicate that exporting products into Vietnam’s market would be a profitable and viable opportunity for other companies and countries besides the United States? Absolutely. Here are some key considerations concerning this growing economic market:

- Population: 86,116,559 – 13th most populous country in the world (57% of the entire population is below the age of 30)

- GDP Real Growth Rate: 8.48%

- GDP percentage by economic sector: Agriculture – 19.4%, Construction and Industry – 42.3%, and Services – 38.3%

- Principal exports: crude oil, electronic components and products, fishery products, footwear, and garments and textiles

- Principal imports: equipment and replacement parts for machinery, refined petroleum, steel, textile industry cloth and materials

Export Opportunities

According to the US Commercial Service based in Hanoi, there are a number of potentially profitable

for other countries yet to be investigated. For those companies and countries interested in entering this expanding Southeast Asian market, here is a list of the 10 most lucrative sectors of the Vietnamese economy:

- Airport and ground support equipment

- Computer hardware and software services

- Education and training

- Environmental technologies (pollution control equipment)

- Franchise opportunities

- Gas, oil, and petroleum machinery and related services

- Medical equipment and supplies

- Power distribution and transmission

- Safety and security equipment

- Telecommunications equipment and related services

These are some of the best export opportunities in Vietnam.
