Environmental Issues Paper Topics
What are some current environmental or public health issues that I can write a research paper on??

I need something that is in the news and it can NOT be red tide, sinkholes, or hurricanes. Please help me with some topics, some good places to also do the research, and any additional info would be great. This is for my college environmental science class.

Another person asked a similar question a few weeks ago. This was my answer to their question about a couple of environmental topics that should be easy to research on the internet or in your college library and could be the subject of a research paper:

1. Overfishing the oceans.

2. “Green space” in urban environments to prevent the fragmentation of wildlife habitat.

3. Overpumping of groundwater aquifers.

4. Protection of natural springs from water bottling companies.

5. Desalination technology used for water supply.

6. Mandatory recycling of waste.

7. Gasoline alternatives (ethanol, hydrogen fuel cell, electric car, etc.).

8. Genetic engineering of plants and animals.

9. Feral cat colonies.

10. Environmental justice movement in minority communities to prevent governments from locating polluters in their neighborhoods.

11. The success (or lack thereof) of reclamation or restoration techniques for wetlands destroyed by mining (coal, phosphate, etc.).

Environmental issues in movies – Wall.E

Hi, wondered if anyone has watched the trailer for the upcoming movie Wall.E? See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCiv7R-_Kxs

In the show mankind leaves Earth due to environmental degradation. Just wondering what you think of the portrayal of environmental issues in the movie and whether you think the movie really depicts the direction our world is headed towards.

I think it has some interesting points to make, especially about a huge corporation very similar to Walmart/costco basically taking over every aspect of consumer goods. I also thought it was really funny/weird how everyone had gotten so lazy and obese that they had forgotten how to walk. THAT seems pretty on point.

But I think people are getting better about reducing waste and recycling. Although there are still questions of whether or not enough people will stick with it and have we changed our ways in time to make a difference. I really liked the movie, I think it had some really valid opinions of what earth could become. I also liked the ending, with the point that enough people working together can make all the difference.

Environmental Issues Of 2009

The environmental issues in India become more serious every day and she is turning into a bit of a mess on this front but with over 1 Billion people most of which in dire poverty, it’s hardly surprising. The recent boom in its industries, little or no environmental education, infrastructure at bursting point not to mention the huge deforestation that’s going on.

India appears to be digging its own grave deeper and quicker than the rest of us, nearly 30% of India’s gross agricultural output is lost every year due to soil degradation, poor land management and counter productive irrigation. 7516 km of coastline have also come under attack from this environmental sabotage, overfishing remains a huge problem due to lack of legislation enforcement. Raw sewage from an awful lot of people is pumped endlessly into the ocean along with other industrial waste and chemicals.

India’s incredibly vulnerable water supply has also come under attack from every angle resulting in very dramatic drop in the national water tables. Air pollution remains a huge problem in India with the diesel used containing up to 200 times the amount of sulfur than our European diesel.

The quite rapid story if India’s deforestation is rather depressing. It is predicted that almost 5.3 Million hectares of forest have been destroyed since the independence. The government has been slow to recognise this problem and the solutions it has come up with involve unenforceable legislation mixed with wide spread corruption and a million poeple buring desire to survive

Land degradation, disease and a huge litter problem are some of the other problems which plague this great nation. It is however, not all lost…

Even at a time when the number of tourists interested in visiting places of historical interest has dwindled to some extent, Prague has maintained its repute as one of the most popular historical destinations of the world. The city with architectural splendors in the form of palaces, museums and galleries is a must visit for those who have a keen interest in history or architecture. This city never ceases to surprise people and has something new to offer at all times. As a result, it is commonly believed that one trip to Prague is not enough because it has a lot to offer. Prague is known as the home to several well-known museums some of which that date back to the 18th century.

Lobkowicz Palace in Prague houses perhaps the most famous museum in the city. This vast palace has a museum that treasures some of the most precious art prices and antiques possessed by the Lobkowicz family. The Prague national museum is another well known museum in the city. Located in the Wenceslas Square, this museum is to be found inside a building which is the landmark of the Square. Being the oldest museum in the city, the National Museum hosts several exhibits that reflect the glorious past of the country. In addition, this museum is known for exhibiting some rare paintings by world famous European artists.

If the National Museum is famous for reflecting the history of Czech republic, the Museum of the City of Prague is a tribute to Prague city. Its chief attraction is the 20 sq ft model prepared by Antonin Langweil which depicts the city. Furthermore, there are some unique sculptures and ancient artifacts housed by this museum. Likewise, the National Gallery at Veletrzni Palace and Museum of Communism also deserve a special mention as these museums have depicted history from close quarters enabling visitors to travel back in time.
